Diet and Nutritional Tips for later-Summer (7/23-9/7) and after the Seasonal Change from 7/7 to 7/23

Every two months we go through a seasonal change. During these times we want to ease the burden on our digestive system and also allow for it to recharge. One of the best foods during a seasonal change is Kitchari. It’s a gentle and effective way to not only cleanse the digestive system but also strengthens it. Though, what do you do after that time?

What do you do after this seasonal change?

Well, the types of foods you focus on in your diet change for many, especially anyone that is bi/tridoshic, or possibly those with a dosha that is already or have a tendency for a dosha to become aggravated.

While yes, you want to be mindful of your doshas, some general tips for the season that goes from 7/23 through 9/7 are cutting out green leafy vegetables from late-July to the end of August as the Vata (air and ether elements) is starting to increase and eliminate curded and fermented foods from late-August through the end of September. Instead, for August start increasing healthier fats (oils, nuts), and juicy fruits like peaches, bananas, and stewed pears or stewed apples into the diet as they help to counterbalance the increase of Vata that’s on the rise, and by September you want to start in with some salty foods and nice root vegetables like carrots, squashes, sweet potatoes, and beets (keep in mind some root veggies, like potatoes, you want to add ghee/butter and maybe other Vata balancers to them as potatoes will increase Vata when cooked).

What are some signs of Aggravated Vata?

Some of the signs of aggravated Vata would be things like constipation, muscle spasms, nerve pains, anxiety, fear, racing thoughts, feeling scattered, or like your in the middle of a tornado or hurricane.
